White Pagoda Temple in Wuwei

The Temple of the White Pagodas ( Chinese  白塔寺 , Pinyin Báitǎ sì or 凉州 白塔寺 , Liángzhōu Báitǎ sì  - "Temple of the White Pagodas of Liangzhou") is a Buddhist temple in Wuwei in the northwestern Chinese province of Gansu. It is located in the village of Baita in the municipality of Wunan , approx. 20 km southeast of Wuwei at an altitude of 1500 m. It is famous for its 108 white pagodas.

In 1247 the Tibetan religious leader of the Sakyapa sect Sagya Pandit Gonggar Gyamcan met the Mongolian prince Godan Khan (Gotan, Go Tan etc.) here and held talks about the Tibetan submission to the rule of the Mongols (Liangzhou huitan 凉州 会谈 "Liangzhou -Talk ") and negotiated the conditions for the integration of Tibet into the Mongolian Empire.

The site of the Temple of the White Pagodas (Baita si yizhi 白塔寺 遗址) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-125) since 2001 .
