Wuwei ( Chinese  武威 市 , Pinyin Wǔwēi Shì ) is a district-free city in the center of the Chinese province of Gansu .

The administrative area of ​​the city has an area of ​​33,249 km² and approx. 1.82 million inhabitants (2016).

Wuwei is home to the Tiantishan Grottoes , which are on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China .

Administrative structure

Wuwei is made up of a city district, two districts and an autonomous district at the district level:

  • Liangzhou City District (凉州区), 5,081 km², 980,000 inhabitants (2003);
  • Minqin district (民勤县), capital: Sanlei municipality (三 雷 镇), 16,016 km², 290,000 inhabitants (2003);
  • Gulang district (古浪 县), main town: Gulang municipality (古浪 镇), 5,287 km², 390,000 inhabitants (2003);
  • Tianzhu Autonomous County of Tibetans (天 祝 藏族 自治县), capital: Huazangsi Municipality (华 藏寺 镇), 7,147 km², 220,000 inhabitants (2001).
