Jinchang ( Chinese 金昌 市 , Pinyin Jīnchāng Shì ) is a district-free city in the northwest of the Chinese province of Gansu at the foot of the Qilian Shan . Your administrative area forms the eastern end of the Hexi Corridor . It has an area of 8,896 km² and around 469,800 inhabitants (end of 2016), mainly Han Chinese . 195,409 people live in the actual urban settlement area of Jinchang (2010 census).
The city is known for the Shengrong Temple from 561 and ruins of the Great Wall of China .
Administrative structure
At the county level, Jinchang is made up of a municipality and a district:
- Jinchuan District (金川 区), 3,017 km², 200,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
- Yongchang County (永昌 县), 5,879 km², 250,000 inhabitants, capital: Chengguan Township (城关 镇).
history
The area has been inhabited for approximately 4,000 years and was established by the Western Han Dynasty in 206 BC. BC to AD 24 administratively structured.
Solar project
In May 2012 the construction of a solar park with 1 GW capacity in the west of the city and an associated production with 300 MW capacity of the company Alex Solar from Shanghai was announced.
