action

Earth Chapter ( 地球 篇 , Chikyū-hen )

The student Tenchi Masaki lives with his father and grandfather on the grounds of a Shinto shrine in rural Japan. His grandfather Katsuhito Masaki is the priest of the shrine and his father and Katsuhito's son-in-law Nobuyuki Masaki works as an architect. One day, two spaceships crash at the shrine and bring space pirate Ryōko and the policewoman who is pursuing her, Mihoshi Kuramitsu, to earth. While Ryōko is reckless and reckless and immediately falls in love with Tenchi, Mihoshi is naive, simple-minded and clumsy. While Mihoshi has to stay on earth because of her destroyed spaceship, Ryōko wants to hide on earth and stay with Tenchi. Your living spaceship Ryōōki usually has the shape of a rabbit-cat-like animal with a penchant for carrots.

Another crash causes the space princesses Aeka and Sasami to come to earth from the planet Jurai, whereby the older Aeka falls in love with Tenchi and begins a constant argument with Ryōko about him. Mihoshi's partner Kiyone Makibi also comes to earth to pick up her unloved partner. But then both are transferred to earth. By coincidence, Tenchi and his friends also awaken the crazy alien scientist Washu Hakubi, who was sealed under the shrine because she almost destroyed the universe a long time ago. All these alien women bring a lot of turmoil into Tenchi's life with their quarrels, inventions and problems.

Space Chapter ( 宇宙 篇 , Uchū-hen )

Suddenly, however, the Jurai fleet appears and wants to capture Aeka and Sasami, as they are charged with high treason. They can be saved, but now all nine are wanted criminals, including Tenchi and his family. To prove their innocence and to find out the reason for the charge, they travel together to Jurai. Despite many obstacles on the way, they arrive there and learn that Kagato now rules Jurai, a legendary power-hungry swordsman who wants to use the power of Jurai to conquer. Tenchi's grandfather turns out to be Yōsho, an equally legendary Jurai warrior, who long ago drove Kagato out and then disappeared. Now he brings the two guardians of Jurais back to life in the Jurais sanctuary and together they fight against Kagato. After all, it is Tenchi's turn to defeat Kagato. During the fight, Tenchi can mobilize Jurai's power, which is also within him, and wins against Kagato. Eventually Tenchi returns to Earth, even though he is now Crown Prince Jurais.

reception

The magazine Funime points out the poor quality of drawing and animation compared to the OVA series, which is common in television series. The characters are slightly modified compared to the original, some have been invented and over time the story takes its own path. However, some characters looked like "decals" and caricatures compared to those of the OVA. The series is not bad, but nowhere near the best of Tenchi Muyo .
