Tengizchevroil ( Russian Тенгизшевройл ) is a mineral oil company in Kazakhstan with headquarters in Atyrau . It is a joint venture between Chevron Corporation (50 percent), ExxonMobil (25 percent), KazMunayGas (20 percent) and LukArco (5 percent).
Tengizchevroil was founded on April 6, 1993. The company has the right to produce oil in the Tengiz field for 40 years . Until 1996 the joint venture consisted only of the Chevron Corporation and KazMunayGas. Only later did ExxonMobil and Lokarco, a joint venture between Lukoil and the Atlantic Richfield Company , get involved.
In 2009 Tengizchevroil produced a total of 22.5 million tons of oil. This makes it the largest mineral oil company in Kazakhstan in terms of oil production.
