Tennessee Records was an American record label that mainly released country music .

history

Tennessee Records was founded in Nashville , Tennessee in 1950 by brothers Alan and Reynold Bubis. Songwriter and producer Ted Jarrett was hired as the A&R manager . The label mainly focused on country recordings, and the first release was Ricky Riddle's Second Hand Heart / Somebody's Stealin 'My Baby's Sugar (Tennessee 700).

Tennessee's first and biggest hit that same year was Del Wood's version of the traditional Down Yonder . In contrast to the other appearances, Wood's record was held in the ragtime / piano style. After that, however, you couldn't get beyond regional successes. In addition to Wood, Kirk McGhee (later as a bluegrass and old-time musician ) and Helen Carter, a member of the Carter Family , also achieved greater fame. Other artists included Johnny T. Talley , Billy Wallace , Lee Bonds , Carl Tipton and Floyd Huffman , whose works are now very popular with collectors. Many musicians also recorded singles on Tennessee's sister label Republic Records .

In 1953, Tennessee was closed by the Bubis brothers to operate other labels. The last record was released by Del Wood with Mr. Goon Bones ( Waiting For The Robert E. Lee / Listen To That Band , Tennessee 845). The brothers retired from the music business in 1960. The rights to the Tennessee catalog are now partially owned by Bluesland Productions and SnailWorx / S. Cargo Productions. In the 1970s, the Dutch Redita Records released an LP entitled Nashville Country Rock # 5 , which also includes Tennessee recordings.
