Tenshin-ryu

Tenshin-ryū ( Japanese 天 心 流 ) is a more than 400 year old sword fighting school in Japan , which originated during the Kan'ei era (1624-1645) in the Edo period .

The school was founded by Tokizawa Yahē ( 時 沢 弥 兵衛 ). This learned swordplay of Yagyū Munenori , then one of the most famous sword teacher of Tokugawa - Shogunatsfamilie

Yahē was later allowed to establish a school separate from the sword fighting secondary school, which he called Tenshin-ryū. It was built in Harima Province .

Tenshin-ryū is a comprehensive school of Hyōhō ( 兵法 ), which includes several martial arts:

  • Kenjutsu ( 剣 術 ): Fighting with the sword ( katana )
  • Battōjutsu ( 抜 刀 術 ): drawing the sword
  • Sōjutsu ( 槍 術 ): fight with the lance ( yari )
  • Jūmonjiyarijutsu ( 十 文字 槍 術 ): Fighting with the Jūmonjiyari lance
  • Naginatajutsu ( 薙刀 術 ): Fight with the glaive ( Naginata )
  • Kusarigamajutsu ( 鎖 鎌 術 ): Fighting with the sickle ( Kusarigama )
  • Tessajutsu ( 鉄 鎖 術 ): Fight with the iron chain
  • Yawara ( ): unarmed ground combat / wrestling

Grandmaster

  • Ishii Seizo (born in Tokyo in 1892) was the 8th grandmaster
  • Nakamura Tenshin (born 1943) is the 9th Grandmaster
  • Kuwami Masakumo (born 1978) is the 10th Grandmaster since February 11, 2012.
  • Ide Ryusetsu (born 1983) is the 11th Grandmaster since May 1, 2019.
