Terauchi Manjirō attended the Tokyo Art School (東京 美術 学校, Tōkyō bijutsu gakkō), the forerunner of the Geidai , where he studied under Kuroda Seiki in the Department of Western Painting. He graduated there in 1916. In 1918 he was able to show pictures at the state "Bunten" exhibition . In 1919 he became a juror at the exhibition now called "Teiten" .
