Teresa Tomlinson

Teresa Tomlinson (* around 1966) is an American politician and has been the mayor of Columbus , Georgia since 2011 .

Life

Tomlinson attended Chamblee High School in Atlanta and graduated from there in 1983. She then graduated from Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar , Virginia , where she graduated in 1987, and studied at the Law School of Emory University in Atlanta. In 1991 she finished her studies. In 1994 she moved to Columbus. Tomlinson worked for the law firm Pope, McGlamry, Kilpatrick, Morrison and Norwood, LLC for the next 16 years . During this time she became the first female partner in the company's history. From 2006 to 2010 she was executive director of MidTown, Inc. , a local non-profit organization for urban development .

On November 30, 2010, Tomlinson was elected mayor of Columbus with 68% of the vote. The previous incumbent Jim Wetherington had waived the candidacy for a second term. On January 3, 2011, Tomlinson was inaugurated. She is the first woman to hold this office. On May 20, 2014 she was confirmed in office with 63%.

Tomlinson is married.
