Terpandre was a French progressive rock band.

Band history

The guitarist Bernard Monerri was active in cover and blues bands in the late 1960s , but gave up these activities in 1969 because he had other musical ambitions. He wanted to start his own band and got to know the pianist Jacques Pina. They shared an interest in Gustav Mahler and Béla Bartók . In 1974 they began to rehearse near Lyon with the bassist Jean-Jacques Martin and the drummer Michel Torelli in order to realize their vision of a symphonic and jazz- influenced progressive rock. The complexity of the keyboard arrangements soon made it necessary to recruit a second keyboardist, who was found in Michel Tardieu.

The five musicians named their band after the ancient Greek musician Terpandros . Terpandre played a few concerts in 1976 and 1977 and Patrick Tilleman joined the band as a violinist in 1978 to record their debut album . Terpandre was recorded in Geneva in just two weeks . However, there was no record label that wanted to release the album. The band broke up, the musicians became active in other bands. Musician friends who were friends finally offered the release on their label, so that Terpandre came onto the market in 1981. Musea will reissue it later. It was to remain the band's only release and is now an insider tip of French progressive rock.
