Terra de Trobadors
Terra de Trobadors ( Land of the Troubadours ) is a multi-day festival that is held every year on the second weekend of September in the medieval center of the Catalan city of Castelló d'Empúries .
history
The festival was created in 1991 on the initiative of a group of musicians called CREMM-TROBAR ( Center de Recherche et d'Expression des Musiques Médiévales-Trobar ) from Carcassonne . The proposal to promote historical cultural relations between Northern Catalonia and Occitania was supported by the Languedoc-Roussillon Region and the General Directorate for Cultural Development, Department of Culture of the Provincial Government of Catalonia and the Council of the Province of Girona . The size and supraregional media interest have made Terra de Trobadors an important cultural event in the province and the country over the years since the beginning of the event, and there are now co-productions with other European festivals.
Event points
Terra de Trobadors offers performances by singers and jugglers on all days of the event , reminding of the medieval times when Castelló d'Empúries was the capital of the county of Empúries . Public concerts, street theater, folk dances, sales exhibitions of traditional handicrafts take place throughout the historic center of Castello de Empuries; Knight tournaments, numerous demonstrations of troubadours, lectures, exhibitions and guided sightseeing tours as well as rides for groups of children are also part of the obligatory event program. A large medieval market is held on the side squares of the Basílica de Santa Maria , while the main forecourt is used for numerous performances. One of the annual highlights of the festival is the medieval dinner ( Sopar Medieval ), which is held at 10 p.m. in the courtyard of the Count's palace.
For several years now, the festival has had a specific themed motto, which aims to link the more than 1000-year history of the former county with the present. In previous festivals, for example, the family tree of the Counts of Empúries was thematized; but also important historical events in the community, legends, professions, nobility and knighthood as well as the diversity of cultures were each determined to be the guiding motto of the Terra de Trobadors .
The great personal commitment of the local associations - as well as the population of the municipality of Castelló d'Empúries as a whole - should also be emphasized, which makes the Festival Terra de Trobadors a large and well-known folk festival.
