Territory (proper spelling: TERRITORY) is a German communications - and advertising agency with headquarters in Hamburg . The company was created in May 2016 through the merger of several companies and immediately became the market leader in content marketing . Territory is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Gruner + Jahr publishing house , which in turn is wholly owned by Bertelsmann .

history

Kontorhaus Stubbenhuk , Territory headquarters (2015)

In 2015, G + J Corporate Editors merged with the Gütersloher Medienfabrik , which was previously assigned to Arvato . The aim of the reorganization was to bundle content marketing and corporate publishing activities within the Bertelsmann Group. G + J Corporate Editors and Medienfabrik together achieved a turnover of over 100 million euros. In 2016, Gruner + Jahr finally founded a communications and advertising agency under the name "Territory", which comprised both G + J Corporate Editors and Medienfabrik and the three companies CrossMarketing, Employour and Trnd. With this, Gruner + Jahr significantly expanded its activities in the field of media services, which was understood in the trade press as an attack on competitor C3 . Territory's turnover was 130 million euros at the time it was founded and the number of employees was 850. In the course of 2016, the takeover of the digital agency Webguerillas brought another company under the Territory umbrella. Territory also set up the “Honey” joint venture with the communications agency Kolle Rebbe .
