At least 20 people died and 119 were injured in the terrorist attack in Kabul on June 3, 2017 . Three explosive devices detonated at a memorial service for a killed demonstrator. So far nobody has confessed to the act.

After numerous attacks on June 2, 2017, around 1000 residents of Kabul demonstrated against the government because it was doing too little for the security of the Afghans. The demonstration was triggered by the devastating bomb attack in Kabul the day before. A truck loaded with explosives exploded in the diplomatic district of Wasir Akbar Chan, killing at least 90 people and injuring more than 400. The protesters called for the resignation of President Ashraf Ghani's government . They also called for the Interior Minister and the head of the Security Council and Intelligence Service to resign.

The Afghan police used water cannons and tear gas to crush the demonstration. They also fired submachine guns at the demonstrators to prevent them from entering the presidential palace in the city center. According to the authorities, two people died in this way. One of them was the son of the Vice President of the Senate.

Amnesty International criticized the police action as disproportionate and called for those responsible for the deaths of the demonstrators to be held accountable.

The protests continued the day after the memorial service. Several hundred people gathered again; many of them had spent the night in tents near the presidential palace .

During the memorial service for the killed protester Mohammad Salem Isedjar in the Khair-Khana cemetery, three explosive devices exploded. At the funeral service were u. a. Co-Prime Minister Abdullah Abdullah and other top Afghan politicians present. A total of around 1000 people were present at the celebration. At least 20 people died and a further 87 people were injured. The Ministry of Health had initially spoken of seven dead.

The Taliban rejected responsibility for the attack.
