Terry Ryan (born July 14, 1946 in Defiance , Ohio , † May 16, 2007 in San Francisco , California ) was an American author .

Life

Terry Ryan was born in Ohio in July 1946, the sixth of ten children to parents Kelly and Evelyn Ryan. She spent most of her life in San Francisco. Ryan achieved her greatest success with the publication of her autobiography The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio . In the book, she describes her life and that of her family, especially her mother, a 1950s housewife who looked after the family while her husband kept getting drunk. On Valentine's Day in 2004, Ryan married her longtime friend Patricia Holt. Shortly thereafter, she published under the name We Do! a book about their wedding. In 2005, her autobiography was filmed with Julianne Moore as Evelyn Ryan and Ellary Porterfield as the teenage Terry Ryan. She died of cancer in May 2007.
