Terson syndrome

As Terson syndrome is a vitreous hemorrhage in subarachnoid hemorrhage called (SAB). It occurs in around 14–45% of those affected. The risk of dying from subarachnoid hemorrhage is significantly increased if Terson syndrome is present ( odds ratio 4.8).

If there is no spontaneous absorption of the bleeding, a vitrectomy may be necessary.

The Terson syndrome was first described by Moritz Litten in 1881 , but is named after the French ophthalmologist Albert Terson .
