Tertullus (Consul 410)
Tertullus was a Roman senator in the early 5th century AD.
After Priscus Attalus was made emperor in 409, Tertullus was made consul by Attalus in 410 . Tertullus was a heathen and said when he took office as consulate in the Senate , which was already mostly occupied by Christians : “Fathers gathered, I am speaking to you as consul and pontiff . I am the one, I hope to become the other. ”He announced himself as the avenger of the gods and the restorer of their altars and palaces. His consulate was recognized only in Rome , where the people welcomed his appointment with joy. After Tertullus expressed imperial ambitions in the Senate, he was later executed.
