Tesfay Gidey Hailemichael

Tesfay Gidey Hailemichael (* 1965 ) is an Ethiopian Major General , who since 2017 commander of the UN forces of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei is (UNISFA).

Life

Hailemichael joined the Ethiopian armed forces in 1983 and found various uses in the army after completing his officer training . He also completed a degree in public health at the Siddarth HIV Research Institute, from which he completed a Master of Science (MSc Public Health). In 1995 he graduated from the Ethiopian Defense Command and Staff College and was a brigade commander from 1997 to 1998 . After further assignments, he was commander of a division between 2003 and 2007 and deputy commanding general of an army corps from 2009 to 2011. He then became a member of the Defense Council in 2011 and was Commanding General of an Army Corps between 2011 and 2014 before becoming Head of the Defense Logistics Department of the Armed Forces in September 2014.

On February 23, 2017, Major General Hailemichael was appointed as the successor to Major General Hassen Ebrahim Mussa , who also came from Ethiopia, by UN Secretary General António Guterres to command the UN troops of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), a peace mission for the between Sudan and South Sudan's disputed Abyei area and its forces are almost exclusively provided by Ethiopia .

Hailemichael is married and has three children.
