Tethya aurantium (also known as sea ​​orange ) is a cosmopolitan species of sponge . It belongs to the order of Hadromerida from the class of horned silica sponges .

Tethya aurantium forms several radial bundles of silicate needles. There are warty oscula on the top half of the sponge .

Individual individuals up to 70 mm in size have been described where systematic collections were carried out, but the average size was only between 11.4 (South Africa) and 21 mm (New Zealand).

The species reproduces by means of buds that grow on stems on the surface.
