Tetsurō Shimizu ( Japanese 清水 徹 郎 , Shimizu Tetsurō ; * February 10, 1988 in Karuizawa ) is a Japanese curler . He currently plays third in Yuta Matsumura's team .

Career

Shimizu played for the first time internationally at the Junior Pacific Championship 2007 as third in Ryo Ogihara's team ; the team finished third. In the same year he played for the first time in the Pacific Championship . As third in the team of Yūsuke Morozumi , he was fourth. The following year he won his first medal in this competition with the silver medal. Five more silver medals followed (2009, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015) before he won the first gold medal with Yūsuke Morozumi at the 2016 Pacific Asian Championships . In 2017 he came third with the Japanese team. In 2018 he moved to Yuta Matsumura's team and won his second gold medal at the 2018 Pacific Asian Cup .

He played his first world championship in 2009 in the Morozumi team; the Japanese finished tenth. Since 2013 he has participated in the World Cup every year; the best placement was fourth place in 2016 .

With Yūsuke Morozumi (Skip), Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi (Second), Kōsuke Morozumi (Lead) and Kōsuke Hirata (Alternate), Shimizu represented Japan in the men's competition at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games . It was the first time in 20 years that a Japanese men's team could qualify for the Olympic Games in curling. In Pyeongchang he came eighth with his teammates after four wins and five defeats in the Round Robin .
