Devil's Stone (Bentzin)

Devil stone

The Teufelsstein is a boulder and is located about one kilometer northeast of Neu Plestlin in the municipality of Bentzin in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district . It is located south of the Peene Valley at the southern beginning of an erosion valley.

The stone is 3.1 meters high, 5.3 meters long and 3.4 meters wide. The volume is about 29 cubic meters, the mass is estimated at 78 tons. It consists of coarse-grained, light gray and pink Sala granite with no dark components and very little biotite . The stone was brought to its place of discovery by ice age glaciers from Uppland in central Sweden .

The Teufelsstein was the largest boulder in the old district of Demmin . In 1991 it was declared a natural monument by ordinance of the Demmin district . Until 1993 it was covered with piled reading stones from the surrounding field and was then exposed.
