Burg Linn Textile Library

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The only textile library in Germany is affiliated to the textile museum in the museum center at Linn Castle , but formally independent. It was founded in 1855 as part of the establishment of the Crefeld Higher Web School . In what was then Linn , experts for textile manufacturers and the textile industry were trained, who were urgently needed in the entire region, especially in the neighboring silk city of Krefeld . Today's Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences developed from the weaving school in many steps .

The library was originally set up to provide the students and faculty of the school with the literature they needed. Later it was organizationally assigned to the forerunner of today's German Textile Museum. The library was thus expanded to include further areas of its current system. The textile library has a rich and globally unique historical inventory of rare and valuable works. This includes both manuscripts, such as the notes of a linen weaver, which began in 1621 when he was a traveling companion, as well as prints such as various works from the Baroque era, but also folders with drawings or weaving patterns.

The library categories include a. the embroidery , the carpet weaving , the color technology , the ornamentation , the paraments , but also collections of historic fashion magazines .

Indexing is possible via historical, art-historical , cultural or stylistic categories as well as a geographical system. In addition to local works, the textile library offers collections of African or Asian literature. There are precious materials, especially from the Art Nouveau period . The reference library with over 10,000 media is open daily.

The library relies on donations and foundations to keep its holdings up to date. There is only a small budget available for purchasing new works.
