The Textile Labeling Act ( TextilKennzG ) prescribes how the fibers that make up textiles must be declared to the consumer . It was adopted on January 15, 1969, and revised on February 15, 2016 taking into account Regulation (EU) No. 1007/2011 on the designation of textile fibers.

legislation

According to the Textile Labeling Act (TextilKennzG), a textile product is a product that is made from textile raw materials to at least 80% of its weight. It defines textile raw materials as fibers including animal hair that can be spun or processed into textile fabrics. The fiber type - just mentioning the brand name is not enough - and its proportion of the textile raw material in descending order must be indicated. Care instructions and designations of origin are not required. A distributor in Germany must provide all information in German, but information in foreign languages is also permitted, but only as an addition to the German-language information.

In addition, the Textile Labeling Act regulates the commercial weight surcharge .

Textile label

The picture on the right shows an example of a textile label . It contains the necessary information about the composition, here 60% cotton and 40% polyester. A brand name such as Trevira instead of the name polyester would not be permitted under the TextilKennzG. The indication of textile care symbols is not mandatory, but helps to select the correct method for washing and cleaning.

The original Textile Labeling Act implemented Directive 96/73 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of December 16, 1996 on the designation of textile products into national law.
