Thái Lập Thành
Thái Lập Thành (* 1899 with Bạc Liêu ; † July 31, 1951 in Sa Đéc , Mekong Delta , Indochina ) was a pro-French Vietnamese colonial official and politician.
During the Indochina War he officiated for the Bảo Đại government ( State of Vietnam ) from 1950 as governor of South Vietnam ( Thủ hiierungn Nam Việt ). He replaced Trần Văn Hữu in this office , who had risen to prime minister. Thái Lập Thành was considered to be of little political importance despite his high position.
On July 31, 1951, he and the French regional commander-in-chief, General Charles Chanson , fell victim to a suicide attack during an inspection tour in the city of Sa Đéc in the Mekong Delta : A young Vietnamese blew himself up with a grenade right next to them. The governor died instantly, the general died a few hours later. The Việt Minh were initially held responsible for the attack ; More likely, however, is the involvement of the Cao Đài militia leader Trình Minh Thế . The government took the attack as an opportunity to ban the paramilitary youth militia of the Đại Việt party (Thanh niên Bảo quốc Đoàn).
A street in Saigon was named after him ( Đường Thái Lập Thành , since 1975 Đông Du ).
