The Théâtre du Nouveau Monde (TNM; "Theater of the New World") is a theater in Montreal . It is located at 84, Rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles , near the Place des Arts cultural center .

It was founded in 1951 by a group of theater actors, including Jean Gascon , Georges Groulx and Jean-Louis Roux . Well-known directors and actors, for example Michel Tremblay , Gabriel Charpentier , Monique Mercure and Geneviève Bujold , made the TNM widely known.

At the beginning, the theater did not have its own building. It played in the Salle du Gesù (until 1958), in the Orpheum (until 1966) and in the Place des Arts. In 1972, the TNM acquired a building that had previously been used by the Gayety Theater and the Théâtre de la Comédie-Canadienne , and has played exclusively there ever since. There is space for 846 spectators in the theater hall.
