Théodore-Joseph Canneel (born November 8, 1817 in Ghent ; † May 16, 1892 ibid) was a Belgian portrait and genre painter as well as a lithographer and art teacher.

Theodore Canneel learned the trade of lithographer from 1830 in the printing works in which his father worked. He then became a student of the painter Pieter van Hanselaere (1786–1862). From 1838 to 1841 he combined his profession with training at the Koninklijke Acaďemie voor Schone Kunsten van Gent. He taught there from 1843. From 1848 to 1850 he went on a study trip to France and Italy . On his return in 1850 he was appointed director of the Ghent Academy. In 1869 he became an inspector at the Belgian drawing schools and academies. He also became a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Fine Arts of Belgium , the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen and an honorary member of the Philadelphia Academy. For the services rendered, he was appointed officer of the Belgian Order of the Leopold .
