The aircraft ( registration number : HS-TIA, c / n : 415) was equipped with two General Electric CF6-80C2A2 engines and was 12 years and 10 months old at the time of the accident. It had completed a total of 23,028 flight hours.

the accident

Thai Airways International's Airbus A310 took off from Don Mueang Airport at 5:54 p.m. local time on a two-hour scheduled flight to Surat Thani. There were 146 people on board, 14 of whom were crew members. At the time of landing, the Surat Thani Airport had poor visibility in the dark and in heavy rain.

The first two approaches were canceled. On the third attempt, the machine crashed about 700 meters from the runway as a result of a stall . The crew had again initiated a go- around maneuver on the final approach , but the incorrect trimming of the horizontal stabilizer resulted in the aircraft then climbing too steeply and falling into an excessive flight condition. The investigators believed it was likely that the pilots caused the accident due to stress.

It is the only total loss and fatal incident of the Airbus A310-200, which has been out of service since 2015.
