Heinrich Völker

Heinrich Völker (born February 15, 1900 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , † June 8, 1975 in Worms ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Völker initially completed an apprenticeship as a printer and worked in this profession before he switched to the administrative service of the city of Worms as a technical clerk. After the National Socialists came to power, he was arrested and briefly interned in the Osthofen concentration camp . He was detained again in 1936 for political reasons, this time for 18 months. After his dismissal, he worked as a printer in a printing company in Darmstadt from 1939 . Since 1945 he worked as a union secretary.

MP

In 1946/47, Völker was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there. He was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament from 1947 to 1971. Here he was from 1947 to 1967 also deputy chairman of the social democratic group.

Public offices

Völker had been second mayor since 1946 and served as mayor of the city of Worms from 1949 to 1967. During his tenure he mainly dealt with the reconstruction of the city.
