Singapore homosexuality

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Geographical location of Singapore

Although the topic of homosexuality has been publicly discussed in Singapore for several years, same-sex love is still hardly accepted in the island state and is largely taboo in private life.

Legal situation

In Singapore , homosexuality is legally illegal, with in fact no criminal prosecution. At the moment there are considerations to delete the sodomy clause (which applies to homosexual and heterosexual intercourse) from criminal law, but there is still no draft law that would allow the deletion of another one that only applies to intercourse between two men ( lesbian sexuality is not perceived by criminal law) applicable paragraphs. Ex-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew's considerations to completely decriminalize homosexuality because it is genetically determined have not yet become the subject of parliamentary activity.

Legal texts

The age of consent is 16 years for opposite-sex contacts and less for spouses. By default, marriage is possible from the age of 21, with the permission of the parents also from the age of 18 and under other conditions also below.
