Thai International Development Cooperation Agency
The Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency ( Thai สำนักงาน ความ ร่วมมือ เพื่อ การ พัฒนา ระหว่าง ประเทศ , TICA) is a department in the Thai Foreign Ministry . The organization is based in Bangkok and is responsible for the country's technical cooperation with partners in Southeast Asia .
History and foundation of TICA
The Thai government founded the "Department of Technical and Economic Cooperation" (DTEC) as early as 1950, which had to manage the technical aid projects from the USA and Europe within Thailand. The department worked closely with the foreign partners from the planning phase to the evaluation of the projects. After Thailand was able to show high economic growth and healthy development until the beginning of the 21st century, the country switched from recipient to donor of aid. The consequence of this changed policy was the creation of TICA, which took place in 2004.
TICA's tasks
The organization mainly supports the neighboring countries Laos , Cambodia , Burma and Vietnam , but recently also in East Timor , Sri Lanka and some African countries. The projects can be financed either alone or together with foreign partners. On average, TICA works with around around partner organizations (both governmental and non-governmental organizations), including the German GTZ .
The institution also advises foreign organizations on training opportunities within Thailand and encourages them to study in the country. In addition, the supply of material for numerous technical aid projects is organized and help is provided with tax issues, visa extensions for foreign experts, volunteers and accredited NGO members.
