Thaicom 4 (also known as IPSTAR-1 ) is a Thai communications satellite . It was launched on August 11, 2005. The satellite is operated by Thaicom , a subsidiary of Shin Corporation .
The geostationary satellite was launched with an Ariane 5 from the space center in Kourou . It is co-positioned with Thaicom 7 at 120 ° East .
Thaicom 4 enables a total data rate of 45 gigabits per second through internal multiplexing. The area served by satellites with broadband communication and internet extends from India to China to New Zealand . The greatest market potential is seen in the rural areas of India, China and Southeast Asia , whose infrastructure is insufficient for broadband transmission .
