history

In 1838 the Löwenherz brothers built a fulled cloth mill in Wiesbaden's Nero Valley . The water of the Nerobach was used to drive the machines, which led to serious conflicts with the neighboring property owners, as the toxic dyes required for textile production contaminated the water. The brothers then moved the factory to nearby Biebrich in 1842 .

In 1851, Samuel Löwenherz received permission to convert the former mill into a cold water sanatorium. The prosperous institution was demolished in 1905 by the architect Albert Wolff and replaced by the new owner Dr. Josef Schubert was replaced by a luxurious hotel in the neo-baroque style , which reopened in 1907 under the name Kurhaus Bad Nerotal . In the following years wealthy patients from home and abroad visited the spa hotel. In 1944 the upper floor was destroyed by bombs, and the clinic continued in the remaining intact building until 1957.

In 1992 the non-profit housing company of the city of Wiesbaden acquired the building. The thalhaus theater has been housed there since 1997 and has been operated by a non-profit association since 2001.
