Saint-Félix is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .

geography

Saint-Félix is located at 380  m , near Rumilly , about 17 kilometers southwest of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). The village extends in the southwestern Albanais , in the foothills of the Alps, on the eastern edge of the wide depression that connects the Rumilly basin with the Lac du Bourget .

The area of the 6.60 km² large municipal area includes a section of the Albanais. The main part of the area is taken up by the approximately 3 km wide valley depression, which continues from Rumilly southward in the area of Aix-les-Bains . The valley watershed is located north of Saint-Félix (at 364  m ), so that almost the entire municipality is drained through the Deisse to the south to the Lac du Bourget. The Etang de Crosagny pond is located in the formerly marshland valley floor . The community area extends to the east on the adjacent slopes. On the ridge of Héry, the highest point of Saint-Félix is reached at 580  m .

In addition to the actual town center, Saint-Félix also has several hamlet settlements and farms, including:

  • Mercy ( 380  m ) east of the Etang de Crosagne
  • Chamossat ( 480  m ) on a ledge above the village
  • Blanly ( 440  m ) on the plateau east of the valley

Neighboring municipalities of Saint-Félix are Marigny-Saint-Marcel in the north, Alby-sur-Chéran and Héry-sur-Alby in the east, Chainaz-les-Frasses and Saint-Girod in the south and Albens and Bloye in the west.

history

The municipality of Saint-Félix was already settled during Roman times, which has been proven by various traces.

From 1396 Saint-Félix formed a parish that was dependent on the Droisse priory in Mognard . In 1860, Saint-Félix was separated from the canton of Albens in the Savoie department and incorporated into the newly created canton of Alby-sur-Chéran in the Haute-Savoie department.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint-Félix was built in 1854 in the neo-Gothic style. The castles of Lignière and Malagny, the manor houses of La Sauffraz (with wall paintings from the 16th century), Blanly, Bery and La Chapelle as well as the former mill (built in the 17th century) at the Étang de Crosagny are worth mentioning .

With 2,421 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Saint-Félix is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. Since the beginning of the 1960s, thanks to the attractive residential area, there has been a continuous increase in population, which has increased significantly in recent years.

Economy and Infrastructure

For a long time, Saint-Félix was primarily an agricultural village. In addition, small and medium-sized businesses have developed since the 1950s. The important businesses in the area include a cheese dairy and a construction company. In the meantime the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the Annecy area.

The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N201, which runs from Annecy to Chambéry . Further road connections exist with Marigny-Saint-Marcel, Héry-sur-Alby and Saint-Girod. The next connection to the A41 motorway , which crosses the municipality, is around 4 km away.
