Mésigny is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .

geography

Mésigny is located at 535  m , about 13 kilometers northwest of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). The farming village extends on a slope gently sloping to the northeast over the valley of the Petites Usses, in the hilly landscape between the valleys of Usses and Fier , in the Genevois .

The area of ​​the 6.73 km² municipal area includes a section of the Genevois. The eastern part of the municipality is occupied by the valley of the Petites Usses , a left side stream of the Usses. The valley, which has several turns, is oriented from southeast to northwest. To the west, the community area extends over the relatively gently sloping slope from Mésigny to the adjacent hill country. On the wooded height of Sublessy, the highest point of Mésigny is reached at 720  m .

In addition to the actual town center, Mésigny also includes various hamlet settlements and farms, including:

  • Les Balmettes ( 430  m ) in the Petites Usses valley
  • Chosoz ( 490  m ) on the slope below the village
  • Chez Gaillard ( 550  m ) on the slope above the village
  • Orgemont ( 590  m ) on a plateau above the village

Neighboring municipalities of Mésigny are Sallenôves in the north, Choisy in the east, La Balme-de-Sillingy and Sillingy in the south and Chilly in the west.

history

The municipality of Mésigny was already settled in the Neolithic and Roman times.

From 1803 Mésigny belonged to the municipality of La Balme-de-Sillingy, before it was raised again in 1825 to an independent municipality.

With 753 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Mésigny is one of the small communities in the Haute-Savoie department. A significant increase in population has been recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Mésigny is still a predominantly agricultural village today . There are also some local small businesses. Many workers are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Annecy area.

The village is off the main thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N508, which runs from Annecy to Bellegarde-sur-Valserine . Other road connections exist with Chilly and Sillingy. The closest connection to the A41 motorway is around 14 km away.
