Moye is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .

geography

Moye is located at 472  m , near Rumilly , about 17 kilometers west of the city of Annecy (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the northern Albanais , on a ridge between the valleys of Fier and Parmand, at the eastern foot of the Montagne du Gros Foug.

The area of the 23.80 km² large municipal area includes a section of the Albanais. The eastern, flatter part of the municipality is occupied by a ridge that rises between the hollow of Rumilly or the valley of the Fier on the one hand and the valley of the Parmand on the other. The Parmand flows in a Mulde valley parallel to the eastern foot of the Montagne du Gros Foug and flows into the Fier. From the Parmand the community area extends further west over a slope marked by valleys and ledges to the wide, densely wooded ridge of the Montagne du Gros Foug. This is where Moye's highest elevation is reached at 1044  m . In the far south the area extends into the valley of the Nephe (left tributary of the Chéran ).

In addition to the actual town center, Moye also includes numerous hamlet settlements and farms, including:

  • Vessy ( 470  m ) on a ledge at the eastern foot of the Montagne du Gros Foug
  • Nivellard ( 520  m ) on the eastern slope of the Montagne du Gros Foug
  • Liennet ( 419  m ) in the Parmand valley
  • Magny ( 460  m ) on the eastern slope of the Montagne du Gros Foug
  • Pressy ( 450  m ) on the slope east of the Parmand
  • La Roche ( 460  m ) on the slope west of the Parmand
  • Marcellex ( 480  m ) on the slope west of the Parmand
  • Poisu ( 450  m ) at the height between Parmand and Chéran
  • Salongy ( 530  m ) on the slope west of the Parmand
  • Le Villard ( 570  m ) at the eastern foot of the Montagne du Gros Foug
  • Bessine ( 572  m ) on the eastern slope of the Montagne du Gros Foug

Attractions

The village church of Moye was built in 1837. There are chapels in various hamlets, including the Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Cœur chapel (1833) in Poisu. There are several castles and mansions in the municipality, for example the former Château de la Palud (now a farm), the Château de Novery and the castles of Montprovent and Mossières. There was a priory near Saint-Ours in the Middle Ages.

With 1018 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Moye is one of the small communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, the number of inhabitants decreased continuously due to strong emigration (in 1861 there were still 1265 inhabitants in Moye). Since the beginning of the 1980s, however, there has been a significant increase in population.

Economy and Infrastructure

Moye was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . In addition, there are now various local small businesses. Many workers are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Annecy area.

The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from Rumilly. Further road connections exist with Lornay and Cessens. The closest connection to the A41 motorway is around 12 km away.
