The Cerrado mice ( Thalpomys ) are a species of rodent living in South America from the group of New World mice . They are of two types.

Cerrado mice reach a head body length of 8 to 11 centimeters, the tail is relatively short with 4 to 7 centimeters. The weight is 13 to 40 grams. Their fur is colored yellow-brown on the upper side, mixed with black outer hair, the underside is light brown.

These rodents are only found in eastern Brazil , where they inhabit the Cerrado savannah landscape at heights of 400 to 1300 meters, mainly in the states of Minas Gerais and Goiás . The animals live on the ground. Reproduction falls in the rainy season November to February, and the litter size is two to three young.

There are two types, Thalpomys cerradensis and Thalpomys lasiotis . According to the IUCN, both species are not threatened, but this information is out of date.
