The official source of the Thames. Dry at the time of admission. Otherwise the Thames would have flowed in the direction of the photographer.

The Thames Head is a place in Gloucestershire , commonly referred to as the source of the Thames is considered. The source is north of the village of Kemble at an altitude of 110 m above sea level. The claim to the source of the Thames is controversial. The Environment Agency and Ordnance Survey see the source near Trewsbury Mead . The source is also given at Seven Springs east near Cheltenham . At Seven Springs, however, lies the source of the River Churn , a tributary of the Thames, which flows into it at Cricklade .

A pillar marks the source of the Thames, which lies in a small stone basin. The pool is dry except for very wet winters.
