Cricklade is a place with 4100 inhabitants (2001) between Swindon and Cirencester in Wiltshire in England .

history

The place is an Anglo-Saxon foundation from the 9th century. Cricklade was of strategic importance because a Roman road crosses the Thames here. In the time of Canute the Great there was a coin in the place .

Surroundings

The Thames Floodplain at North Meadow near Cricklade is home to the largest wild chess flower population in England.

The River Churn , the River Key and the River Ray flow into the Thames east of Cricklade.
