Rudolf von Leuthold

Rudolf Leuthold , von Leuthold since 1897 (born February 20, 1832 in Zabeltitz , † December 3, 1905 in Berlin ) was a German medical officer and university professor.

Life

Leuthold studied medicine at the Medicinisch-Surgical Friedrich-Wilhelms-Institut in Berlin. In 1856 he was at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin to Dr. med. PhD. He was a troop doctor in Mainz and came to the Friedrich Wilhelms Institute as a senior physician in 1861. Promoted to medical officer in 1862 , he was assigned to the Charité zu Ludwig Traube for two years in 1864 . In Danzig he was the head of a cholera hospital as a garrison doctor. In the Franco-Prussian War in 1870/71 he was chief physician of a field hospital and later a division physician . He then worked at the Invalidenhaus Berlin . From 1874 he was regimental doctor for the Guard Cuirassier Regiment . In the same year he received a most Friedrich Wilhelm Institute professorship for war medicine. From 1879 to 1892 he was a full professor . Gustav von Lauer him came to treat William I approach. Leuthold won the emperor's trust, who let him observe the treatment of the crown prince's throat cancer . In the three emperor year Leuthold became personal physician of Wilhelm II. From 1889 he headed the medical service of the guard corps .

In 1897 Leuthold was raised to the Prussian nobility by Wilhelm II . In 1901 he was appointed surgeon general of the Army and Chief of the Medical Corps and the Medizinalabteilung in the Prussian Ministry of War appointed. At the same time he became director of the Kaiser Wilhelms Academy for military medical education and an honorary professor at Berlin University. Associated with the Prussian Ministry of Spiritual, Educational and Medical Affairs as an advisor, he gave valuable suggestions for combating epidemics , especially typhus and cholera .

Leuthold founded the German military medical journal in 1872 , which he published for over 30 years. He was the holder of the Grand Cross of the Red Eagle Order .
