Thatch Caye is an island off the coast of Belize , about 14 km off the coast of Dangriga and about 3.6 km (2 mi) behind the Belize Barrier Reef .

The 4.45 hectare island is located in the area of the reef crown near Southwater Caye , Tobacco Caye , Cocoplum Caye and Fantasy Caye in the area of the South Water Caye Marine Reserve .

There are five employees on the island who work for the Thatch Caye Resort The hotel is run by Muy'Ono . It can accommodate more than 30 people.
The name "Thatch Caye" goes back to the co-owner Travis Holub , who had all the buildings built with thatched roofs . All five buildings stand on piles over the water.
