The Anchorage (Fife)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Anchorage is a residential building in the Scottish town of Kirkcaldy in the Council Area Fife . In 1971, the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish list of monuments in the highest monument category A.

description

The year 1582 is recorded on a door lintel , which can plausibly be interpreted as the year of construction. With the help of paintings and engravings it can be shown that The Anchorage has been revised several times over the centuries. Among other things, windows and doors were added. In 1965 the building was restored.

The Anchorage stands on Shore Road above a bay on the Firth of Forth in the formerly independent community of Dysart , which is now part of Kirkcaldy. The two- to three-story building was built into the slope. It has an L-shaped floor plan. Its masonry is plastered with Harl . A few of the mostly twelve-part lattice windows along the asymmetrical façades are crowned . A cross gable shows a rope ornament with an upright anchor. The final gable roofs are covered with gray slate. Their gables are designed as a simple stepped gable .
