The Backslope is a mountainside on Signy Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It is located immediately southeast of the Signy station at Factory Cove .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out surveys between 1947 and 1950. Aerial photographs were taken in 1968 by the Royal Navy . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it that way in 2004 because it is behind the Signy station when viewed from the sea.
