The Bastard Fairies (dt. The Bastard Fairies ) is an American musical duo from Los Angeles , which as Internet phenomenon is described.

history

The duo founded in 2005, consists of singer / poet Yellow Thunder Woman (the English translation of her birth name Wakinyan Zi Win ; dt. Yellow Thunder Woman ), a Uramerikanerin , and guitarist / songwriter Robin Davey, an Englishman from Great Cheverell in Devizes , Wiltshire , who formerly formed The Davey Brothers with his brother Jesse .

The duo, who often perform with guest musicians, recorded their first album Memento Mori “with a Mac” and made twelve of their songs (bizarre lyrics and uncomplicated melodies) available for free download on their website “to make their music known”. The commercial version contains five more songs. The Bastard Fairies were in 2007 No. 18 of the "Most Subscribed (All Time) Musicians" and No. 31 of the "Most Viewed (All Time) Musician" on YouTube .

Robin Davey and Yellow Thunder Woman also recorded the documentary The Canary Effect , which shows the impact of US politics on Native American Indians. This film won The Stanley Kubrick Award For Bold and Innovative Film Making at the Michael Moore Traverse City Film Festival in 2006. The duo also won the Best Music Video award at the American Indian Motion Picture Awards that year 2006.

Controversial video

The duo released a promotional video called The Coolest 8 Year Old In The World Talks About O'Reilly (dt. The coolest eight year old in the world speaking on O'Reilly ), in which a small girl commented politics, religion and social issues. The video was featured on The O'Reilly Factor talk show on the Fox News Channel and was described as " child abuse " and "emotional abuse" in a discussion between TV host Bill O'Reilly and child advocate Wendy Murphy .

The Bastard Fairies then stated in the opening credits of the video:

"Official Statement: This video features a talented young actress playing a fictitious character. It is a commercial for the band 'The Bastard Fairies' and directed by an award winning documentary film making team. "

In German:

Official Statement: This video shows a talented young actress playing a fictional character. It's a promotional video for the group 'The Bastard Fairies' and was directed by an award-winning documentary team. "

As of September 11, 2007, this video had been viewed more than 1.6 million times and has won several awards on YouTube, including 10th place in the “Most Discussed Videos” category in the “News and Politics” category.
