The Context Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Context Group is an international working group of Christian exegetes of the Old and New Testaments founded in the late 1980s , who programmatically include the results of social science and socio-cultural research in their work. The social scientific interpretation of the Bible is thus in the context of research directions such as feminist exegesis , liberation theology , gender studies and biblical social criticism .

The members and participants of the Context Group come together annually for an international conference in the USA , which takes place alternately in Portland / OR and Philadelphia / PA.

Within the exegetical disciplines, the social-scientific interpretation of the Bible has been supplemented and partially superseded since the 1990s by, among other things, linguistic , intertextual and aesthetic reception methods. Representatives of the social scientific Bible exegesis have therefore increasingly revised and expanded their hermeneutics in line with the more recent research approaches.
