The Cookies, 1962

The Cookies was an American girl singing group from Brooklyn , NY , which was mostly active as a background choir in the "Brill Building", New York in the 1960s.

history

The formation worked in particular for Neil Sedaka and Carole King . She wrote the hit The Loco-Motion for Little Eva with her then husband Gerry Goffin - and the Cookies sang in the background.

The King / Goffin team then wrote some songs for the Cookies. The first success was the title Chains , which reached number 17 in the US charts in 1962 and was re-enacted by the "Beatles". The next single Don't Say Nothin 'Bad (About My Baby) made it into the top 10 in 1963, and Girls Grow Up Faster Than Boys hit the top chart again in 1964 (33).

Earl-Jean McCree then left the group, tried her hand at being a soloist and released the song I'm Into Something Good , among others , which, however, only became a real hit in the version of Herman's Hermits in 1964 ( UK number 1).

The "Cookies" also released songs under the pseudonyms "Honey Bees", "Cinderellas", "Palisades" and "Stepping Stones".
