The Denots Crew
The Denots Crew (TDC) is a group of different artists, musicians and dancers who influenced and changed the beginnings of the Berlin hip-hop and graffiti scene in the early 1980s from the Märkisches Viertel . The Denots Crew arose from four splinter groups:
- Graffiti - Writer group: The Unknown 3 (Deza aka Combo, Crime and Crazy Color, from 1985 still Rebel and 1987 Kaos)
- the German rap band: "TDC"
- the punk rock band: "Razzia"
- the Kudamm breakdance group
These four groups and their friends each moved in different styles, through their common affinity for skateboarding they got to know each other and united to form the Denots crew.
Beginnings
When in the early 80s in the western part of the city of Berlin there was still no reference to hip-hop from America, TDC began to integrate this style, which was new and relatively unknown in Germany, with its breakdance group on Berlin's Kudamm . The style was picked up very quickly by the youth and is now recognizable on every street corner.
Emergence
Due to its decentralized location and city-like infrastructure in the north of Berlin, the high-rise housing estate Märkisches Viertel brought together fringe young people who together formed the Denots crew. Over the years up to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, the Denots crew created works of art, music publications and concerts. Further publications came about through collaboration with other Berlin musicians such as O-Jay and Quickmix from the Alliance. Concert performances with the Imperial Nation Berlin. In the area of street art, the first graffiti works were also created on the Berlin Wall , which in some cases met with great interest and attention from the media. Further art objects on the building were created through the collaboration with Gesobau from 1986 until today.
