The Dhol Blasters

The Dhol Blasters are a group of Indian Bhangra musician from Birmingham ( England ), which was founded in the early 1980s. The Dhol Blasters are directed by one of the most famous dhol players, Gurcharan Mall .

Gurcharan Mall founded The Dhol Blasters when he was a dhol player in the bhangra band Apna Sangeet .

Many people saw Gurcharan Mall play his dhol and wanted to learn, so he started teaching in 1989. At the beginning he had only 5 students, but The Dhol Blasters kept growing and today have over 200 members spread across the UK . The group's instruments include several barrel drums dhol and a forked cymbal chimta .

Together with the British reggae and pop band UB40 and the singer Hunterz , The Dhol Blasters played the song Reasons in the course of the worldwide Live8 concerts in London's Hyde Park .
