The Dismemberment Plan (also The Plan or D-Plan ) was an American indie rock band from Washington, DC, founded in 1993. They released four albums.
history
The band was formed on January 1, 1993 by Eric Axelson ( bass ), Steve Cummings ( drums ), Travis Morrison ( guitar and vocals ) and Jason Caddell (guitar) during their high school years. They first released an EP and then their debut album !, which was released on DeSoto Records . Shortly after the release of the record, drummer Steve Cummings left the band, he was replaced by Joe Easley. This was the only line-up change at D-Plan.
The band had their breakthrough with their third album Emergency & I, which received very positive reviews from the critics. For example, B. the renowned site Pitchfork Media 9.6 out of 10 possible points. During the recording of the album, The Dismemberment Plan signed a contract with the major sub-label Interscope , which they dropped shortly before release. This is how this record was released by DeSoto.
The relatively great success of Emergency & I was followed by tours in America and Europe, where the band played as the opening act for Pearl Jam and Death Cab for Cutie . In 2001 their fourth and final studio album, Change, was released, as the band split up in autumn 2003. Some of the members of the band were already involved in other projects. B. together with ex-members of The Promise Ring the band Maritime . A compilation called A People's History of the Dismemberment Plan was also released in 2003 , which consisted of fan-made remixes of D-Plan songs.
The band caused a stir in 2007 when they announced that they would play a reunion benefit concert. Because of the great demand, two concerts took place. According to Travis Morrison, however, a real reunion was not planned "except to have a few beers".
