The Promise Ring is an American emo band from Wisconsin founded in 1995 . The group is considered to have set the style for the late 1990s in this genre.

history

1995 to 2002: from foundation to dissolution

In 1995 Davey von Bohlen decided to leave his band Cap'n Jazz , where he was singer and guitarist, and to devote himself exclusively to his band The Promise Ring, which was originally founded as a side project. A year later, the formation was signed by the independent label Jade Tree , where four albums and several EPs were released, including a split EP with Texas Is the Reason .

1997 Scott Beschta left the band. He was initially replaced by Tim Burton.

The tour bus overturned on the first tour with the new bass player. Burton broke his arm and was replaced by Scott Schoenbeck, with whom the band also recorded the following album, Very Emergency . Subsequently, von Bohlen and Didier initially devoted themselves to a new side project called Vermont .

In 2000, von Bohlen discovered a brain tumor in a relatively advanced stage (allegedly the size of a fist ). After the successful operation and the associated break, The Promise Ring parted ways with Jade Tree. Von Bohlen was a guest on the Jimmy Eat World album Bleed American in 2001 (the song A Praise Chorus refers to him with the lines “I'm on my feet I'm on the floor I'm good to go. / So come on Davey sing me something that I know. " , in which he also appears as a guest singer), the following year The Promise Ring released one last album on the epitaph sub -label ANTI-Records , the wood recorded by The Smiths producer Stephen Street / water . In 2002 the band broke up.

2002 to 2011: The time without The Promise Ring

Davey von Bohlen and Didier founded the band Maritime (Band) , which released three albums since 2004. Schoenbeck joined Dashboard Confessional ; Gnewikow works as a graphic designer (for the Counting Crows , New End Original and Jimmy Eat World, among others ).

Scott Beschta released the CD Sweet Heavenly Angel Of Death in 2005 under the name Magic Arrows .

reunion

The first public sign of a reunion was in November 2011 a new Twitter account that bore the band's name and was opened with the words "Hello, again ...". The account turned out to be authentic. A little later the first appearances were announced, and the band played their first reunion concert in Milwaukee on February 24, 2012 .
