New End Original was an American indie rock / emo band from California .

Band history

New End Original was founded at the end of 1999 by Jonah Matranga (ex- Far and solo project Onelinedrawing), Scott Winegard, Norman Arenas (both ex- Texas Is the Reason , ex- Shelter ) and Charlie Walker (ex- Chamberlain ). Initially called Onlinedrawing, it was renamed New End Original after the first rehearsal and Onlinedrawing was continued by Matranga as a solo project. It was a kind of indie supergroup that quickly became known. All band members moved to California and began touring first in the United States, then also through Europe. Known only through live performances, the band was then able to sign a contract with Jade Tree . September 2001 the first single Lukewarm was released . The debut album Thriller followed in October . The album set new standards in the field of emo and is now considered a classic.

In the following year, however, the band began to experience a crisis. Scott Winegard and drummer Charles Walker left the band due to personal differences. A replacement was not found, in 2003 the band broke up.

Music genre

The only album Thriller moves musically at the intersection between pop music , emo and punk rock and is very versatile. In addition to some hard punk pieces, there are ballad-like songs with piano accompaniment, as well as songs that increase in intensity. In addition to the members' former bands, Jimmy Eat World is also a benchmark. Philipp Schiedel headed his review on Laut.de with “Setting new standards on the emo record shelf.” Jesse Jarnow from Allmusic described new-end original music as similar to Soul Asylum and emphasized the pop elements of the album.
