useful information

After separating from Capitol Records in 1999 and a self-financed European tour , the band saved up the money from record sales and part-time jobs in order to be able to record the next album at their own expense. The musicians took a lot of time for the songwriting and made every artistic decision together. The lyrics of the album are partly autobiographical. The basic idea for the respective pieces mostly came from Jim Adkins, who introduced them to the rest of the band. The songs were completed together with producer Mark Trombino. For the title track during a sold-out show of the band in their hometown was Tempe ( Arizona ), a music video was added.

The finished album was sent to various record labels. In addition, various radio stations received a promo single with three tracks. Therefore, the first songs were already played on the radio before a new record deal could be signed. Because of this airplay , DreamWorks Records signed the band. The label started an extensive marketing campaign. A professional video was shot for the title track and DreamWorks sent out promotion teams to promote the album to the public. An exclusive pre-release single was released via the band's website and sold out within a few days. In addition, a website was set up specifically for the sale of the album, through which an enhanced CD was sold, which u. a. contained a link to exclusive video material on the band page.

The album was later renamed Jimmy Eat World because of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks . The album has sold over 1.3 million times in the US alone.

On April 28, 2008, a deluxe edition of the album was released with a bonus CD with multiple B-sides, acoustic versions, live versions, demo versions and previously unreleased tracks. The Deluxe Edition was given the original title Bleed American again .
